While playing sports most athletes will encounter some type of physical injury (torn ACL, ankle sprain etc.) during their career. The injury that is sustained creates trauma to the bone, muscle, and/or tendons within the injured area. Now you may be thinking, how can you relate a physical injury to trauma? Well let's address the word trauma. Trauma can be a bodily or mental injury caused by an outside force, and let's not negate the spiritual aspect of trauma from our definition as well. So, now you can see the correlation between an injury suffered being a traumatic event.

Do injuries only take place in the physical realm? No. Injuries also manifest in the mental and spiritual areas Of our lives also. For example, if as a child you love to sing, but every tlme you sing your mother yells at you to stop singing because it increases her anger after returning from the job she hates. NOW, that may not sound like an injury right? But let's take a closer look at the example above. A child that is living as their true self is essentially being told by the person they love the most that they are not good enough and that the sound Of their voice angers people. At this moment the child has sustained an injury from their mother, which in-turn has created a traumatic event for the child. Mentally the child may develop communication issues or spiritually feel as if they are unworthy.
